Andrew is One ... and He’s Doing Great!

It was a Monday night. My mom, sister, husband and I were just finishing up the baby room when I felt a gush of water down my legs. I knew that my water had just broke. I was scared – I was only 30 weeks along. I was very lucky that my mom was there; she is a nurse and was able to calm me down.

We called the doctor were told to come to the hospital ASAP. We left Belmont and made it to Madison in record time. All the way there, my mom was telling me that everything would be OK.

I was admitted to the hospital and, within a few hours, they were able to get things under control.

A few days later, I started running a fever, and the doctors said that it was time for the baby to come out. They started inducing me but, while this was going on, the baby’s heart rate was dropping. They rushed me in for an emergency C-section.

Within minutes, our son, Andrew, was born at 3 pounds, 12 ounces. Hearing him cry was the best sound. The nurse showed him to us, and then off they took him to the NICU. It wasn't until several hours later that I got to see him and touch him.

I had never been so scared in my entire life seeing him lie there fighting for his life. Andrew had a rough first few days, but then things turn around and he starting gaining weight and growing. He was in the NICU for 3 1/2 weeks. He is now a year old and is doing great.

I would like to thank Dr. Greer for saving our son’s life. The nurses were great, too, especially Deb!!!! Thanks so much for making my family and me feel like we were at home.

Thanks,
Corey, Kathie, Abigail, Andrew
