Thank You, Dr. Bartlett, for Helping Our Knees!

SupartzSupartz

Both my husband and I have received Supartz injections in our knees with great success. I was the first one to receive these injections. I injured my right knee while bagging leaves in the fall of 2005 and finally sought treatment the following spring as I could not bend my knee to kneel and do gardening. The diagnosis was a right knee medial meniscal tear. That same spring I had a knee arthroscopy with partial medial meniscectomy and articular debridement. After recovery I seemed to think I was better. I could bend my knee and get down and garden. I did, however, continue to have a spot on my knee that would hurt, especially while walking the dog.

Then, while digging up dirt to make a small mound so water from snow melting off the roof would not cross the driveway and freeze, I felt something was wrong in that knee. I decided to seek additional help and saw David Bartlett, M.D. at the Bone & Joint Surgery Associates in Madison in the spring of 2007. After having an MRI and x-rays, he suggested I try the Supartz injections. Am I glad I did! Even after a full year I am doing great. I am starting to feel a slight pain once in a while and will be going again to have another series of injections. I want to make sure I have a sufficient amount of Supartz to keep the knee from hurting and to protect the bones.

My husband, Vic, had been having right knee pain after slipping on water from a defective ice machine in the spring of 1995. After considerable on-going pain, he too ended up having a right knee arthroscopy in the fall of 2006 because his knee showed tricompartmental osteoarthritis, tearing of the medial meniscus. His recovery didn't go to well and he continued to have pain worse than I did. He then had a cortisone injection that seemed to help a little but only lasted for a short time.

Then in the spring of 2007 it was recommended he have Synvisc injections because the doctor felt his significant tricompartmental osteoarthritis, worse about the medial compartment, was causing the pain. He had the series and did feel somewhat better again, but after a while he starting complaining more and more about the pain. Since I had recently gone thru the Supartz injections and was feeling great, I thought he should see Dr. David Bartlett and get his option of the situation.

Long story short, he too had the Supartz injections. Since getting the injections I haven't heard him complain at all about his knee. He is an avid Harley motorcyclist and took a trip with his buddies out to Montana and back. He didn't have any problems with the knee. He is able to work pain free and I no longer have to constantly hear about his knee. I know he will be back for additional series of injections when necessary.

We are so thankful Dr. David Bartlett gives injections using Supartz. We can enjoy our lives again!

Sandy and Vic
