It was January 1, 2005 late at night. I had been sleeting out for most of the night. I was three weeks away from having our daughter. When my water broke. It was 11:30 p.m. We were living in DeForest; my parents live in Beaver Dam. Of all the bad timing in the world.
My parents started out about 1:30 a.m. to make it to our house to take care of our son, who was sleeping, so we could have a baby. It takes about 45 minutes in good weather to get from Beaver Dam to DeForest, but we had about an inch of ice on the ground! It took an hour and a half for them to reach us. By this time, the contractions were about 5 minutes apart.
Now it was our turn to start out in the horrible weather. My husband was driving very carefully as I was yelling at him to hurry or we would be having this baby on the side of the road. By the time we arrived at Meriter 45 minutes later, contractions were about 2 minutes apart.
The great nursing staff checked me and determined that the baby was breech! Great, what more did I need! I begged them to try to turn our baby. They finally agreed, but after two attempts, we all gave up. We finally had our beautiful daughter by C-Section at 6:09 a.m.
Thanks to the quick thinking of the nursing staff and doctors, they were able to determine that this was not going to be a natural birth and whisked me away to the OR. I can never thank them enough for what they did for us. With both of my children.
I tell everyone I know how great they all are at Meriter and recommend it to everyone! Thanks. Dawn
