Stories About the Meriter Birthing Center, Newborn Intensive Care Unit and Perinatal Clinic

I Felt Comfortable, Confident and Readily Educated to Give Birth

I was referred to Meriter Hospital from Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital because of my baby's PAC's, or Premature Atrial Contractions of the heart.

My first experience, getting my ultrasounds done by Barb in the Meriter Clinic, was wonderful. I have never been to a clinic or hospital where the doctors and nurses take so much time to explain in great detail everything you need to know.

Then, several days later, I was in the delivery room at the hospital on January 19th-21st. I was afraid the epidural would not work, because it had not worked with my first child at another hospital. The anesthesiologist took extra time to place my epidural correctly and he explained to me why it did not work the first time. I felt comfortable, confident and readily educated to give birth.

I could not have had such a pleasant experience without my nurse, Sandy Erby. She was a great coach through all my contractions. Since my epidural was not placed until I was at 8cm, I needed it! At that time, my husband was feeling my pain, and was scared for me and the baby, so having a confident nurse makes everyone feel reassured that everything will be OK.

Thanks Sandy, and all the doctors and staff, for making our experience the best we could expect.

Melissa
