Medical Imaging Awarded 3 Year Accreditation in Computed Tomography

Meriter Hospital’s Medical Imaging Department has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).  CT scanning, also referred to as CAT scanning,  is a noninvasive medical test that is often crucial to the proper diagnosis of disease and in tailoring optimal treatments for various medical conditions.

To obtain ACR accreditation a facility must meet the highest levels of image quality and patient safety.  It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.  Image quality, radiation safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.  The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the hospital with a comprehensive report to assist with continuous practice improvement.

Meriter Hospital is the first hospital in Madison to be awarded CT Accreditation. Congratulations and thank you to all Meriter employees who played a role in achieving this honorable distinction.
