Hospital Wristbands Get Coded

The Wisconsin Hospital Association is encouraging Madison hospitals to go to a standard color coded alert system to improve patient safety.

Standardized color-coding in Madison can help prevent mistakes by health care workers who are employed at more than one hospital where different colors may mean different things. Patients may also move from hospital to hospital, and having one uniform system should reduce patient confusion. The standard color codes at Meriter Hospital are explained in this video clip by Mary Zimmerman, Meriter's Patient Safety Director.
