Your weight and its impact on your health is a balancing act. Trendy diets may promise fast results, but these quick-fixes rarely lead to long-term success. When it comes to successful weight loss, it’s calories that count. Weight loss is the result of burning more calories than you take in. By reducing caloric intake from food and beverages and increasing calories spent during physical activity, lasting success is likely.
You don't have to do it alone. Meriter’s Healthy Weight Program has assembled a team of experts who will tailor a plan specifically to meet your needs and long term goals. By working with our multidisciplinary team, we will help you set realistic weight-loss goals and develop a plan to achieve them. Understanding weight loss, developing the necessary skills, making sustainable lifestyle changes and, most importantly, being in the right mind-set will start you on the right track.
A registered dietitian who will coach you toward improving your eating habits with a plan that suits your needs and goals.
An exercise physiologist who will develop a program based on your needs, preferences and physical limitations.
Health psychologists, if needed, are ready to guide you through the behavior change process, which includes helping you learn how to cope with stress and negative emotions in a way that doesn’t hinder your health goals.
Healthy Weight Program
Building new lifestyle habits is key to maintaining a healthy weight long-term. If you have serious health concerns caused by your weight, more aggressive methods may be considered, including: low calorie diet, very low calorie diet or even weight-loss surgery.
The following chart is a general guide to rates of weight loss experienced with the various methods offered through our Healthy Weight Program. Adults age 18 and over are eligible, but your ability to participate at various levels will be based on your medical condition, BMI, current medical bariatric practice standards and NIH guidelines. Individual results may vary. Exercise is an essential part of every weight-loss program.
Successful weight loss starts with the decision to commit to a sustainable, healthy lifestyle. The team at Meriter’s Healthy Weight Program looks forward to helping you achieve your health and weight-loss goals.
Life After Weight Loss
Achieving your weight loss goal takes hard work and dedication. Your healthy new size may be a drastic change. Some consider body contouring to be the final phase of the weight loss experience.
Surgical body contouring following major weight loss can give individuals smoother contours and improved shape and tone by removing excess sagging fat and skin.
Body contouring or a “body lift” can include the removal of excess skin from the neck, arms, back, abdomen, buttocks and legs. To learn more, contact Meriter’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team and discuss your options.
