Spiritual Care

At Meriter Health Services, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is an educational process providing spiritual care to patients, families and staff while developing pastoral competencies through supervised reflection. The Meriter CPE Program offers a rich learning environment while seeking participants of diverse cultural and religious traditions. The Meriter CPE Program is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) to offer programs of CPE (level I/II).

Program Benefits
As a CPE program participant, you will:

  • Provide a person-centered approach to spiritual care as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Take part in a process of learning through:
    - Pastoral practice
    - Verbatim and case studies
    - Integrative theory and practice papers
    - Seminars
    - Peer group and individual supervision
    - Relevant reading
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of your ministry style in relation to the needs of the persons being served while integrating perspectives from pastoral ministry, psychology, theology and other behavioral sciences. This takes place through supervised peer group reflection and individual consultation with a certified ACPE supervisor.
