Committed to the physical and mental health of your child, Meriter Hospital offers a comprehensive program of services for children, from birth to adolescence. Our specialized professional staff offers family-centered care in a friendly atmosphere. We encourage parents to participate in their child's care as much as possible.

Pediatric Hospitalists

Meriter - UnityPoint Health has a team of pediatric hospitalists providing specialized care to all pediatric patients at Meriter. Pediatric hospitalists care for newborns in the Birthing Center and patients in the Pediatric After Hours clinic, along with support of the pediatric dental and anesthesia programs.

Our team of pediatric hospitalists includes:

“My daughter received excellent care. Everyone involved showed competency and appropriate compassion towards her. Every step was explained clearly to me. The doctor and nurses all did their jobs really well. Thank You!”

Meriter Pediatric Center

The Pediatric Center, located adjacent to the Emergency Department, centralizes care for children receiving emergency services at Meriter Hospital.

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, a team of emergency physicians, physician assistants and nurses, all of whom are trained to care for children, will collaborate on your child's care.

The Pediatric Center was designed with the family in mind and includes a child-friendly waiting area.

Pediatric After-Hours Clinic

The Meriter Pediatric After-Hours Clinic was created to care for children who need care after normal clinic hours. Click here for more information.

Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Newborn Intensive Care Unit is the best place for premature or sick newborns to receive the advanced care they need. Designated as a Level III NICU, we are recognized as a premier regional center for excellence in high-risk neonatal care.

Baby-Friendly Hospital Designation

Meriter Hospital is recognized as a Baby-Friendly birth facility through the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative. This initiative is sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to encourage and recognize facilities that provide optimal levels of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.

Same-Day Surgery

Meriter physicians and staff offer care for children and adolescents undergoing same-day surgery, not requiring overnight stays, including plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Congenital (birth) defects can have physical and psychological impacts on the growth of a child. Plastic surgery can help to improve or correct many birth defects. Working as a multidisciplinary team, Meriter’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery program and the child’s pediatrician coordinate the most effective treatment plan.

Pediatric Therapy

Meriter helps children attain their full potential in all facets of life. Meriter’s Pediatric Therapy Team provides care for children ages birth through adolescence and is available upon referral. Our therapists provide comprehensive treatment to children who have developmental challenges or medical conditions that interfere with their physical development, coordination, communication or learning. Our specialists work closely with families to create individualized treatment plans. Some of our services include:

Behavioral and Addiction Services

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program provides sensitive, responsive and innovative treatment for youths with psychiatric disorders. NewStart offers confidential, comprehensive caring treatment to adolescents suffering from chemical dependency.

Child Protection

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program provides services to sexual assault victims. It is the only program of its kind in Dane County, and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hospital Tours

Individual tours are given to children and parents who have a planned admission. The tour will show you and your child what to expect when you come to the hospital.

If possible, the best time for a tour is within one week of admission, depending on the age of the child. If you would like to arrange for a tour, please call one of our pediatric nurses at (608) 417-6202.
