Meriter Orthopedic Clinic

UW Health Orthopedics

Meriter offers a full spectrum of treatments for painful shoulders - from physical therapy to traditional and leading-edge surgical options. Your shoulder is the most flexible joint in your body that allows you to rotate your arm in many positions, but this flexibility can also make your shoulder susceptible to instability and injury. The expert orthopedic surgeons that practice at Meriter will take the time to accurately diagnose your condition and offer innovative solutions.

Please contact your doctor if you have:

  • Inability to carry objects or use the arm
  • Injury that causes deformity of the joint
  • Shoulder pain that occurs at night or while resting
  • Shoulder pain that persists beyond a few days
  • Inability to raise the arm
  • Swelling or significant bruising around the joint or arm
  • Signs of an infection, including fever, redness, warmth
  • Any other unusual symptoms

To Avoid Shoulder Injuries:

  • Maintain Good Flexibility
  • Retain your core stability
  • Work on rotator-cuff control
  • Practice general strength training
  • Always stretch before exercising
  • Slowly increase the intensity level of physical activities
