Our body's healing process is quite complex and various factors can disrupt the healing process, leaving some people with sores, wounds or infections that will not heal or are very slow to heal.
At Meriter Heart & Vascular, our Wound Care Center provides state of-the-art techniques in advanced wound care delivered by a certified wound provider. We see patients with common wounds as well as chronic, non-healing wounds that have resisted healing after months or years of traditional treatment.
Causes
Some conditions that can cause non-healing wounds include:
- diabetes
- peripheral vascular disease
- traumatic injury
- complications following surgery
- rheumatoid arthritis
- congestive heart failure
- lymphedema
Treatments
We offer state-of-the-art techniques to treat advanced, hard-to-heal wounds and tailor a treatment plan especially for you —including the latest principles of moist wound healing—to help you avoid loss of limbs, reduce incidence of recurrence and return to an active life.
Your treatment will include a comprehensive evaluation including wound cultures, vascular studies and measurement of transcutaneous oxygen tensionn (TcP02). TcP02 allows us to better determine healing potential, evaluate revascularization procedures and assess the severity and progression of peripheral arterial disease. We will also review your overall health status to create a comprehensive plan for your wound care. This plan may include pain and nutrition management, physical therapy, infectious disease, diabetes management and pedorthic consultation as needed.
National Guidelines
Our Wound Care Center follows national guidelines based on clinical evidence when treating and managing wounds and offers:
- State-of-the-art wound treatment such as debridement, advanced wound dressings and wraps, bio-engineered tissue substitutes, vacuum-assisted closure and platelet technologies
- Experienced staff specially trained in all types of wound care
- Extensive patient education to manage the care of wounds and prevent wound recurrence
