Emergency Care:
If you believe you are in need of immediate emergency care, dial 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency department. Meriter’s Emergency Department is located at 202 S. Park Street in Madison.
In January, the physicians of Wisconsin Heart & Vascular Institute joined Meriter Medical Group—the exceptional primary and specialty physicians at Meriter hospital and clinics — and became Meriter Wisconsin Heart.
Physicians of the new Meriter Wisconsin Heart have always provided outstanding hospital-based care at Meriter Hospital. This arrangement has contributed to Meriter Hospital being named one of the nation’s 50 Top Heart Hospitals® by Thomson Reuters—the only hospital in Madison named to the list.
Collaborating with other area physicians and Meriter Hospital staff, we’ve established a track record of innovation which includes:
• The First Endovascular repair of a leaking AAA in the Midwest.
• The First Laparoscopic lower extremity bypass surgery.
• The First Biventricular pacemaker implantation in Madison
• The First accredited Chest Pain Center in Wisconsin— just the 30th in the US.
• The region’s First Ultrafiltration for patients with congestive heart failure.
• The design of Meriter’s Heart and Vascular ‘hospital within a hospital’.
• The first-ever city-wide Vascular and Electrophysiology meetings which bring specialists together to discuss topics in these disciplines.
Meriter Wisconsin Heart is the only area physician group to earn national accreditation by the Commissions for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories, Nuclear Laboratories and Vascular Laboratories for all three of its diagnostic laboratories.
Both Wisconsin Heart & Vascular Institute and Meriter Medical Group share a vision for the future of health care in Madison and southern Wisconsin:
• One where innovative care is the result of collaboration between concerned physicians and staff regardless of where they practice.
• One that provides patients timely, convenient access to specialty care.
• One that breaks down barriers to personalized service and affordable high-quality care for all.
• One that collaborates to improve the quality of care and keep costs at sustainable levels.
“Meriter and Wisconsin Heart have big plans for expanding the region’s cardiovascular assets. In fact, we will soon establish the region’s only atrial fibrillation clinic,” said Dr. John Moses, Division Chief of Cardiovascular Services. “Joining Meriter Medical Group is the best thing we could have done for Madison’s cardiovascular care.”
All Meriter Wisconsin Heart physicians are board-certified in cardiology or vascular medicine. Many are also double- and triple-board-certified in subspecialty areas such as echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, interventional cardiology and electrophysiology.

What’s changing?
In addition to the new name, Meriter Wisconsin Heart cardiologists and vascular surgeons are expanding Meriter Medical Group’s capabilities in research and patient care.
What stays the same? Everything else.
Patients’ care will not change. Meriter Wisconsin Heart doctors will continue to see patients in the Arbor Gate office on the West Beltline and in the ten outreach locations throughout southern Wisconsin. Hospital-based work will continue to be performed at Meriter Hospital.
“Meriter Wisconsin Heart will continue to offer our area’s most comprehensive ‘head-to-toe’ cardiovascular care,” said Jim Woodward, President & CEO of Meriter Health Services.
