Why Change?

Meriter is not alone in searching for new and better ways to care for our patients. A recent national survey found 75 percent of health system leaders were already pursing or considering an affiliation with another organization.

Like others across the country, we recognize the need for our organizations to continually transform in order to continue our missions and service to our patients.

Why right now?

In 2014 and beyond, health care provider revenues will continue to have more to do with clinical outcomes, quality and cost efficiency and less to do with patient volumes. To increase efficiency as we continue to provide high-quality, lower-cost care, Meriter will operate most effectively when aligned with UnityPoint Health.

Meriter is doing this because it is the right thing to do – for patients, our members, our employees, our physicians and the community. We are not doing this because have to – or because we’re in financial trouble. Quite the contrary, the best time to seek out a strategic partner is when an organization is financially strong and can bring value to the partnership.
