Consumer Health

As a consumer health information service, our library is meant to aid you in your health decision making. Written in everyday language, the resources you will find are intended to help explain diseases/ailments, demystify difficult subject matter, impart a sense of control to patients and family members, and stimulate and enrich communication between patients and physicians.

We believe education to be an integral part of your health care - education that will assist you in making informed decisions about the use of health care services, managing your illness and implementing follow-up care.

Circulation Policy and Charges
The Meriter Health Resource Collection is free and open to the public. You can check out any consumer health materials from our collection after registering with us.

Our circulation policy is that all materials circulate for three weeks and may be renewed, once only, unless a hold has been placed by another patron. You can either renew in-person, by phone or through e-mail.

Confidentiality
All visitors to the Meriter Health Resource Collection can be assured that their visit is kept completely confidential. Once library materials are returned, no record is kept of what materials have been borrowed, or by whom.

The Meriter Health Resource Collection is a service of Meriter Hospital. Please keep in mind that material contained in the Library is provided for informational purposes only and should not be construed as medical advice. Our staff recommends that you study materials and use them to formulate questions to discuss with your health care practitioner. The information may not be applicable in every clinical situation, and may not include all of the literature available on the subject. Some material may contain information that is the opinion of the author and not necessarily that of your physician. Please consult your physician on specific medical questions.
