Our Diabetes Clinic specializes in helping women obtain glucose control before conception, during pregnancy and after delivery to have healthy outcomes for both mom and baby. Controlling glucose levels reduces the risk of miscarriage and birth defects that women with diabetes can encounter.
Program participants include women with:
- Prediabetes
- Type 1 diabetes
- Type 2 diabetes
- Gestational diabetes
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
- Cystic fibrosis-related diabetes
All patients receive the latest self-glucose monitoring equipment and instruction with capability for online transmission of data. From July to December 2006, 83% of our patients with diabetes had an A1c of 7 or less and 49% of those women achieved an A1c of 6 or less. A1c is a component in the red blood cell used to monitor a person's glucose over the previous three months. The American Diabetes Association goal is 7 or less; the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists goal is 6.5 or less.
Our staff works with each patient to develop an individualized healthcare plan. Our staff includes:
- A Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist
- A Certified Diabetes Educator – Our educator is board certified in advanced diabetes management, and is also an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber
- A Social Worker
- A Registered Dietitian
To be seen at The Diabetes Clinic, you must be referred by a physician.
