Joint Resurfacing, Replacement and Reconstruction
At Meriter, we work to establish an accurate diagnosis quickly and develop a plan of care that fits the needs of each patient suffering from joint pain or discomfort. Working with each patient's primary care physician, we continuously monitor and manage care before and after surgery. This full-service solution is designed to return our patients to maximum function as quickly and safely as possible. Our specialists utilize advanced techniques such as minimally invasive joint surgery. Meriter also offers pre-surgical joint replacement classes, helping patients play an active role in their recovery process. To learn more about these classes and register online, visit our Meriter Classes & Events section.
Sports Medicine Services
Meriter's sports medicine specialists assist recreational and professional athletes of all ages in the prevention and treatment of sport-related injuries and performance issues. Our staff of highly skilled professionals has up-to-date expertise and many years of experience in a wide variety of sports.
The orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians that work with Meriter specialize in both surgical and non-surgical sport care needs. If rehabilitation is needed, our physical and occupational therapists provide individualized care with a focus on quickly returning patients to their sport. Therapy includes performance enhancement and injury prevention. We also offer several educational clinics during the year, educating Madison's athletes and coaches about injury prevention and recognition. To learn about planned events and register online, visit our Meriter Classes & Events section.
Hand and Upper Extremity Care
This area of the human body is uniquely complex and includes the joints, bones and muscles of the fingers, hand, wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder. Its intricate and mobile design, coupled with the use and abuse sustained each day, can make this region of the body highly susceptible to injury. Meriter's staff includes specialty physicians, certified hand therapists, and physical and occupational therapists.
They work together to diagnose and effectively treat the problem, ensuring that the recovery process is as effective and efficient as possible. Our hand surgeons are accessible 24 hours, 7 days a week if a traumatic injury or urgent problem exists. Advanced techniques such as arthroscopic shoulder surgery provide less invasive surgical options, coupled with skilled therapy intervention to optimize surgical outcomes.
Foot and Ankle Care
Eighty percent of Americans will suffer from some form of foot or ankle pain during their lives. This pain can be caused by an injury, ill-fitting shoes, diseases such as arthritis and diabetes, poor circulation, genetic abnormalities, or simple wear and tear over time.
Meriter's specialists are trained to correct a wide variety of foot and ankle problems with rehabilitation, assessment for orthotics or surgery. We employ the use of a variety of assessment and treatment tools, including the latest technology, to establish an accurate diagnosis quickly and develop a plan of care that fits the needs of each patient.
Emergency and Fracture Care
Meriter Emergency Services plays an important role in Meriter's Orthopedic Program. Each year we treat thousands of individuals with orthopedic injuries that require immediate attention. We have developed our after hours "Fast Track" program to direct patients with problems that are not life threatening to a separate care team. This allows us to treat patients in a reasonable timeframe, and refer patients to appropriate services. We are proud of the reputation we have built, and we are committed to continue providing outstanding emergency care within the community.
Rehabilitation Services
Meriter provides a variety of rehabilitation services on an outpatient and inpatient basis. These services include:
- Inpatient rehabilitation
- Physical and occupational therapies
- Specialized therapy services for women
- Hand therapy services
- Back and neck care
- Other orthopedic-related care
Our physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians work with primary care physicians in assessing the best care options related to an injury or chronic musculoskeletal condition. Many of our staff have specialized training in manual therapy, strength and conditioning, athletic training and women's health.
Work-related Injury Management
Meriter's Return to Work program is an evaluation and rehabilitation service for individuals who are injured on the job or whose personal injury affects their ability to work. The program also offers a full array of ergonomic and prevention services. Our team works closely with physicians and employers to follow carefully coordinated evaluation and treatment protocols, enabling our patients to return to work as quickly and safely as possible. Our staff physical therapists specialize in industrial rehabilitation. Our therapists hold certifications in athletic training, strength and conditioning, and work capacity evaluation techniques.
The Return to Work program is located at 1765 Thierer Road in Madison. For information, call (608) 417-8094. For driving directions and a map, please visit the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation section.
