Each year, millions of Americans are affected by disorders of the brain and nervous system, the severity of which can often be devastating.

In Meriter Hospital's Neuroscience program, we utilize the most current medical and technological advances in order to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from neurological-related disorders. Our nurses, physicians and other staff are dedicated to each patient's physical, mental and spiritual health.

This care, combined with advanced technology, support the patient's total well-being - an essential element of the recovery process.

  • Cardiac
  • Hemodynamic
  • Intercranial pressure

Meriter Hospital was one of the first hospitals in the Midwest to establish such an acute care treatment center for neurological, stroke and neurosurgical postoperative care. Locally, Meriter's program was the first to offer electroencephalogram (EEG) services, including EEG monitoring during surgery.

Our Staff

Meriter's Neuroscience program is staffed by a veteran group of nurses, most of whom have specialized training in neurological and neurosurgical nursing. All nurses take an annual competency examination that tests their knowledge and application of the latest medications, equipment and American Association of Neurosciences Nursing Standards of Care. Meriter's Neuroscience nurses are dedicated to a holistic nursing approach and play an active role in educating patients and their families.
