Carbohydrates
are found in many foods. These foods include grains and
grain products, fruits, vegetables, beans, milk products
and sugars.
Carbohydrates should make up most of the calories in a
person's diet. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans
encourage people to choose healthier carbohydrates.
Examples of healthier carbohydrates would be fruits and
vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free milk products.
Carbohydrates are less healthy when we eat the wrong
kinds, add a lot of high-fat toppings, and eat too many
of them. Examples of less healthy carbohydrates would be
white bread, donuts, cookies, chips, candy bars, French
fries and soda.
Therefore, choose healthier carbohydrates most of the
time. And remember, there is still room in a person's
diet for an occasional cookie or donut.
In conclusion, choose the right types of carbohydrates
and if you want to lose weight, eat less of all foods,
including carbohydrates. Eating healthy is all about
balance, variety and moderation.
