Most babies come into the world the
way every parent dreams - healthy and without complications.
So chances are, you'll never need all of the advanced
services and technology we offer.
Still, it's comforting to know that even if something unexpected
happens during your pregnancy, labor or delivery, Meriter is
ready. Meriter
Hospital is a premier regional center for high-risk
Obstetrical-Neonatal care in partnership with the University
of Wisconsin.
Advanced prenatal care for moms at risk.
Every once in awhile, a pregnancy takes an unexpected turn and more
than routine prenatal care is needed. Our
Center for Perinatal Care is
a joint program of the UW Medical School and Meriter, and has assisted
women from the Midwest for more than 25 years.
For added peace-of-mind, maternal-fetal specialists are available 24 hours a day. We also offer a
Diabetes Pre-Pregnancy Counseling Program that has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education. The Center's comprehensive team of specialists can assess, diagnosis and treat your condition - giving your baby the best-possible start in life.
Extra care is given to cesarean births.
At Meriter, mothers who experience a cesarean birth recover in
specially designed postoperative rooms. Located on the sixth floor,
these rooms are close to a nursery - you can spend as much time as
you want with your new baby and have your baby nearby when you need to
rest.
Meriter's Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
the best place for babies born
early or with problems.
At Meriter, it's reassuring to know that advanced care is
instantly available. Our expanded
Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides a complete
range of neonatal, pediatric and surgical services to babies from
throughout the Midwest. Our neonatal team cares for more than 450
infants every year, and includes University of Wisconsin Board
Certified neonatologists, nurses, pharmacists and social workers along
with physical, occupational and respiratory therapists.
While our staff is highly trained, we believe parents also play an
important role in the care we provide. When a newborn is in our
NICU, we do everything we can to support the parents
and - as much as possible - involve them in their baby's care.
We encourage parents to spend as much time as they want in the NICU, day or night. And if an infant requires special care or
monitoring after leaving the hospital, we train the family on how to
provide this care. For more information, visit our
Newborn Intensive Care Unit
section.
