The Birthing Center
Little Extras
At Meriter, we realize it's those little extras that bring peace of mind. We've stocked our Family Kitchen with nutritious snacks. That way, you can eat whenever you are hungry and your partner can grab a snack during labor or after cafeteria hours.
Your baby's first hat - hand-knit by our volunteers - keeps her cozy. Baby's first bath happens in your suite so you can experience the special moments.
And, our nurses test your infant's hearing while he sleeps. Meriter was one of the first hospitals in Wisconsin to begin performing this important screening.
Support in your breastfeeding relationship from a Baby-Friendly Hospital.
If you're like many moms, you want to breastfeed your baby and know that getting off to a good start is important. That's why Meriter's nurses are trained in lactation support - they provide the knowledge and peace of mind you need to nurse your baby with skill and confidence.
For families that require extra assistance in beginning a breastfeeding relationship,
a referral can be made to a lactation specialist for consultation. And we offer the Newborn Channel in English and Spanish, which offers helpful advice on breastfeeding, in addition to infant care and parenting.
Meriter Hospital is recognized as a Baby-Friendly birth facility through the
Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative. This initiative is sponsored by the
World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
to encourage and recognize facilities that provide optimal levels of care for
breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
Celebrate the arrival of your little one.
Meriter provides a special service, Meriter Baby Mail, to help you celebrate the arrival of your new family member. This personalized, online birth announcement service is free for all families. See samples now!
Making going home special.
To get you off to the best-possible start, we provide you with First Weeks
- a book written by our nurses that answers the questions you'll have during your first weeks home. We continue providing support through our parenting newsletter, which will arrive at your home until your baby's first birthday.
And, we make going home safe by making sure your baby is secure in your infant carseat.
