The Pharmacy Department at Meriter Hospital is committed to providing quality pharmaceutical care to patients, and acting collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

More than 30 pharmacists and 20 technicians work in the Pharmacy Department. Our staff is involved in all aspects of drug therapy - drug selection, dosing, route of administration and duration of treatment - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

• Perinatology

These practitioners serve as resources to pharmacists on staff and other health professionals. Other areas of emphasis for the department are:

• Critical care

• Emergency services

Our Services

         
Throughout a patient's hospital stay, pharmacists evaluate all aspects of drug therapy. In addition to ensuring that medications are delivered promptly and accurately, pharmacists assist in:

• Taking patients' medication history
• Detecting and preventing drug interactions
• Minimizing the likelihood of adverse drug reactions
• Providing drug information to patients and health care professionals

Pharmacists at Meriter Hospital are also actively involved in the education of students in various health care professions. More than 60 pharmacy students receive training at Meriter Hospital each year. Staff members routinely give educational seminars to medical students, interns and residents, as well as nursing staff.

Meriter Pharmacy also serves as a site for a postgraduate residency program in pharmacy practice, which is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
