Your gift to the Area of Greatest Need will provide support to the priorities and needs of the Meriter Hospital. Our focus is on creating a comfortable care environment, so our patients can go home sooner.

Over the next five years, Meriter will transform almost every patient room and care area of the hospital. Private rooms and more family spaces mixed with high-tech diagnostics and treatment will provide patients with added comfort while increasing the efficiency of our staff. Our patients want to go home, and, quite simply, that's our number one goal.

Orthopedic & Neuroscience Center of Excellence

The Orthopedic & Neuroscience Center of Excellence provides patients with a healing environment in both outpatient and inpatient settings and continues to implement program enhancements. In 2010, plans include introducing a new total hip replacement option - anterior approach - that is less invasive, leads to markedly faster patient recovery time and does not require restrictive hip precautions like traditional total hip surgeries do.

The Center also plans to introduce an orthopedic care navigator to its patient care team. This person will help guide patients through all phases of an orthopedic surgery experience, from pre-surgical education and planning through recovery.

Women's Pavilion

Your support of the Women's Pavilion at Meriter Hospital will enhance our programs and services for women at different stages in their lives. Our focus is on wellness and preventative care – from prenatal care to reducing the risk of heart disease in women.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Your support of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Meriter Hospital helps provide a full range of inpatient mental health services and programs for teens and children.

Children have unique mental health issues, and they respond to treatment differently than adults. Patients of the program learn new ways to approach their individual challenges and work with therapists, psychologist and psychiatrists to regain their lives.

Newborn Intensive Care

The birth of a child should be full of joy and excitement, but when infants are born too soon, with life-threatening complications, the anticipation can quickly become anxious worry.

A gift to Newborn Intensive Care at Meriter benefits the care of our tiniest patients. This fund supports research and education projects, staff training, and technology and equipment upgrades.

Operating Room Expansion

The new surgery unit will be double the size of Meriter's current operating room space and will feature ceiling-mounted booms that house patient monitors and anesthesia supplies. These devices offer surgeons more maneuverability and greater efficiency in positioning instruments during surgery.
