A Hole-In-One at Meriter Pro/Am
Congratulations to golfer, Don Carrig, for his hole-in-one at the 12th hole Par 3 at the Meriter Pro/Am Golf Classic on June 2, 2010 at University Ridge Golf Course.
“I was surprised – but it was a good shot. I used by 7 iron, the ball went high, hit the green and then trickled in,” said Carrig. (picture of Don Carrig to the right)
“Maybe he should have saved it for the 17th – that’s where the Mercedes was!” said Brian Brodell, UW assistant golf coach and former Badger golfer who was the pro playing on Carrig’s team. “This is the first time someone on a pro/am team, besides myself, scored a hole-in-one,” said Brodell.
Carrig did win a new set of irons for his feat, and when word gets out, he could become a popular “ringer” on tournament teams. This was his second hole-in-one. His first came during another charity golf event at the Reedsburg Country Club back in 1999.
For the past 19 years, the Meriter Pro/Am Golf Classic has supported patient care initiatives at Meriter Hospital. This year’s event, presented by the Livesey Company, raised more than $113,000 to benefit the Orthopedic & Neuroscience Center of Excellence. Proceeds from the event will support the continued development of innovative procedures and a care navigator to guide patients through all phases of their surgery experience.
