The WomanCare Clinic offers annual preventive care services that are up to date and age appropriate. Services are based on your age, and include:
A test that screens women for cervical cancer. This screening is recommended annually, and the first Pap smear should be done at age 21 and older, or within three years of first sexual activity. Pap smear screening is recommended every three years for women over the age of thirty who are in a monogamous relationship, have never had an abnormal Pap smear, and do not have a history of cancer.
An immunization that prevents high risk Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection in young women. The Gardisil vaccine is recommended in young women, ages 9-26. HPV infection is associated with cervical cancer, and vaccination can reduce incidence of cervical cancer. Pap smear screening is recommended in women who have received this vaccine.
Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Screening
A test for bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This test is recommended annually for sexually active young women under the age of 25, or any other woman at risk for STIs.
A screening test for breast cancer. This test is recommended for women that are over age 40, or earlier depending on risk factors. A clinical breast exam is recommended annually for all adult women, and this is performed in the clinic during your annual exam.
Bone Mineral Density Testing
A screening test for osteoporosis is recommended every five to ten years in all women over the age of 65. Women can prevent bone loss in menopause by taking care of their bones before menopause.
A screening test for high blood pressure. Your blood pressure will be checked at each clinic visit, and it is recommended that all women over the age of 18 have their blood pressure screened every one to two years.
A blood test to check the level of cholesterol. This screening test is recommended every five years for all women over the age of 45, or younger women with risk factors for high cholesterol. High cholesterol is associated with heart disease, the number one cause of death in women in the United States.
