Thank you for considering transferring your child's care to Meriter! We hope that these FAQs will help answer some of your questions. Please call the clinic at 608.417.8300 with ANY other questions you may have. You are also welcome to schedule a free Meet and Greet appointment with your pediatrician to tour the clinic and learn more.

Can I follow my pediatrician to Meriter West Washington?

Yes! We hope that you will consider moving with your pediatrician to Meriter, as we know that you've already built a strong relationship. Meriter would be honored to continue caring for your child.

Those with Physicians Plus insurance will find the switch very easy. For those with Unity Health Plans or GHC insurance, Wisconsin law ensures continuity of care by allowing your children to continue seeing your current pediatrician for at least the remainder of your policy year. This gives you time to explore insurance policies that include Meriter providers.

Meriter Medical Group physicians serve patients of Physicians Plus, The Alliance, Blue Cross, WEA Trust, WPS, Cigna, Health EOS, Medicare and Medicaid, and most commercial insurance plans.

Do Meriter Clinics offer “after-hours” pediatric care?

Yes! The Meriter Medical Group (MMG) recently opened the Meriter Pediatric After-Hours Clinic to assist busy families and assure easy appointment access beyond regular clinic hours. Staffed by MMG pediatricians, the clinic is open to all patients age 0-18 who have an MMG primary care physician. The clinic is conveniently located on the main level (2 Atrium) of Meriter Hospital at 202 S. Park Street in Madison. Simply call your child’s MMG clinic, day or night, for an appointment. The clinic will be open from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday (closed on holidays). Patients have reserved parking in the hospital parking ramp, as well as access to any ancillary services they may need including the Emergency Department, medical imaging, lab and pharmacy.

We understand that a sick child can take a toll on your family, and we’re here to help. That’s why we also offer same day appointments for our patients.

What do I do if there’s an emergency?

In a true emergency, call 911 or take your child to the nearest emergency room. Meriter’s emergency room is located at 202 S. Park Street.

The Meriter Pediatric Center is located adjacent to the emergency department in Meriter Hospital. The Pediatric Center is open 24/7 and is staffed with pediatric hospitalists who collaborate with a team of emergency physicians, physician assistants and nurses, all of whom are trained to care for children. They will work closely with your child’s pediatrician to ensure the highest quality care for your child.

Meriter Pediatrics also offers an after-hours nurses' line. If you aren't sure whether your child needs to be seen in an urgent care/emergency room, just call your clinic and we can help you make this decision. If the nurses’ line suggests you visit the urgent care or ER, you will be connected with a physician before making your final decision.

How difficult will it be to transfer over my child’s records?

Our clinic staff will work with you to make the transition as smooth as possible. You will be asked to sign a consent form when you come in for your appointment. That will allow us to view your UW records electronically and the information will then be part of your child’s Meriter medical record.

If my child has a Meriter pediatrician, will they still have access to the American Family Children’s Hospital and any local specialists that they may need?

Yes, absolutely. Your child’s health is our main priority, and we will refer children where necessary to warrant the best outcome. Our pediatricians work closely with the pediatric hospitalist teams at the Children’s Hospital and Meriter Hospital, so your child will be admitted to whichever hospital is best suited to deal with your child’s situation. Also, Meriter pediatricians work closely with UW sub-specialists on a daily basis, so if your child ever needs specialty care that’s not available through the Meriter Medical Group, her or she will be referred to UW Health or another appropriate physician.

What if my child needs to see the doctor between August 24 and September 5?

We would be happy to schedule your child with one of our other pediatricians or family medicine physicians during this interim period. Please just call the clinic and we'll make sure your child's needs are taken care of.

Can I still use MyChart?

Yes, we encourage you to use Meriter MyChart, so please ask your doctor about it at your next appointment. If you sign up for a Meriter MyChart account, you’ll still be able to access all of the information that was in your previous Madison-area health system MyChart account (UW Health, GHC & Dean) by using MyChart Central. If you have any questions regarding your medical information MyChart, or if you need information beyond what is available to you online, please call your clinic. For website and technical questions, please call the patient help desk at 888.256.3554.
