Does your child struggle with poor handwriting or difficulty copying sentences from the board? Meriter is offering a handwriting workshop for children in grades 2-3. This class includes focus on fine-motor skills and upper extremity coordination necessary for handwriting. Activities focus on upper body strength and stability, hand-eye coordination, visual motor integration, trunk stability and midline control. These areas of focus are the building blocks needed for successful handwriting. Each week new activities will be introduced to carry over at home. The workshop is planned and lead by licensed pediatric occupational therapists with certification in sensory integration, advanced training in visual-vestibular integration, sensory integration and the development of hand function and hand use in children and adolescents. Classes will have a ratio of one therapist to four children and run for 50 minutes with a ten-minute question and answer session at the end. Your child must be able to participate independently in a group setting. Please feel free to contact the Pediatric Therapy Department at (608)417.6173 with any questions.
