Course Accreditation
Statement of Accreditation:  Meriter Hospital is accredited by the Wisconsin Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

AMA/PRA Designation Statement:  Meriter Hospital designates ACLS Recognition for a maximum of 16 hours in category 1 credit and ACLS Renewal for a maximum of 8 hours in category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
 
Admission Requirements:      
• All applicants must submit a current Health Care Provider CPR card at registration.  If you are not current in CPR, please arrange to do so as soon as possible, hopefully before your ACLS course.
• All renewal candidates must submit a previous ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) card.  This must be presented at registration.
• It is necessary that the renewal participant be thoroughly familiar with all ACLS concepts.   The focus of the renewal portion of the course is       designed toward an update of current ACLS protocols and skills and
         successful skills demonstration/validation.

Description
The course will present the information standards and skills developed by the American Heart Association for Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification and recertification.  The material will be presented through the use of lecture, interactive discussions and skills laboratories.  Participants will complete both written and performance examinations.

Intended Audience
Physicians, nurses and paraprofessionals involved in critical care/emergency care situations.  Class size is limited.  Enroll early to assure a place.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to direct a team of health care providers in a simulated cardiac arrest situation.  In addition, participants will learn such skills as endotracheal intubation, defibrillation/cardioversion and AED, recognition of dysrhythmias and application of therapeutic modalities.

Registration
The registration fee for the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course is $225.00 for the Recognition, $175.00 for the Renewal.  The fee includes course materials and breaks refreshments.  Advanced registration is required.  Enrollment will be limited.  Deadline for registration is two weeks prior to course date. 

Location
This course will be located at Meriter Hospital Park in the classroom level of McConnell Hall.

Parking
Nearby on-street parking is available in limited areas.  Parking in the hospital ramp is limited and is not included in the course fee.  The cost is $10/day.

We are all encouraged to have conversations with loved ones about our goals, values and preferences for future health care needs.  And, the best time to do this is before a medical crisis occurs.  An advance care plan provides information about your wishes to your family and health care providers in case illness or injury prevents you from telling them yourself.  This planning process helps clarify what others need to know if you become unable to make health care decisions for yourself. When you put these wishes in writing, it is called an advance medical directive.

At this free seminar, you will learn more about advance care planning and how to complete an advance medical directive. Individuals seeking to update their advance medical directives are also welcome to attend.

The free seminar is third Tuesday of every month. The class is from 5:30p.m. - 7:00p.m. at Meriter Monona. Meriter Monona clinic is located at 6408 Copps Avenue, Monona, WI.

This course is offered for health care providers who currently hold a NRP Provider or NRP Instructor card and will be teaching NRP to other health care professionals. Participants in this course will learn to guide NRP students through acquisition of resuscitation skills using the 6^thEdition curriculum which includes simulated resuscitation scenarios using tactile, visual, and auditory cues. Participants include RNs working in mother/baby units; labor & delivery; nursery and postpartum; nurse midwives; physicians: pediatricians, family medicine, hospitalists, midlevel providers; respiratory therapists, and others. Participants will also learn to conduct an effective debriefing.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Current NRP Provider or NRP Instructor
• Completed 6^th Edition Instructor DVD prior to Attending Course (Provide Documentation)
• Completed 6^th Edition Online Exam (Provide Documentation)

This course is offered to health care providers needing to renew NRP certification or seeking certification for the first time. The course is designed for providers working in or pursuing work in settings where maternal or newborn care is provided.  This may include individuals working in labor and delivery, high risk antepartum, postpartum, newborn nursery, or neonatal intensive care units.

Eligibility Requirements:

•             Completed 6th Edition Online Exam (Provide Documentation)

Hundreds of times each day, in hospitals and communities around the world, newly born infants become ill and require specialized care. Each member of the health care team—nurses, physicians, therapists and assistants—must know what to do for the sick infant. Their care must be provided in a timely, efficient, anticipatory, and effective manner. This early transitional care affects not only the immediate health of the infant, but also the infant’s long-term outcome. The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program was developed to meet the educational needs of health care providers who must deliver this important stabilization care. S.T.A.B.L.E. education is critical to the mission to reduce infant mortality and morbidity and to improve the future health of children and their families.

S.T.A.B.L.E. is the most widely distributed and implemented neonatal education program to focus exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of sick infants.

Who Should Attend?
All members of the newborn healthcare team: RNs working in mother/baby units; labor & delivery; nursery and postpartum; nurse midwives; physicians: pediatricians, family medicine, hospitalists, midlevel providers; respiratory therapists, and others.
