Timeline – The first program session of 2008 will begin in April and end in January 2009. The second session will begin in September 2008 and end in June 2009.
Salary – Competitive RN starting salary.
Orientation – Central and unit-based orientation is provided and precedes the residency program.
Application – All new graduate RN's working in Medical, Surgical, Cardiac, Critical Care or Emergency Services are considered enrolled in the program once hired by Meriter.

ResidentsMeriter Hospital proudly offers a nurse residency program for new graduate cardiac/critical care, medical/surgical/operating room and emergency services nurses.

The ten month residency program provides numerous learning opportunities and introduces participants to all phases of inpatient care and resource personnel. The program offers structured classroom content in conjunction with monthly small group discussion sessions and clinical shadowing experiences. Program content is also configured to support the achievement of the personal goals identified within the individual professional development plan written by each resident.

Program Highlights

Residents
  • Individual assessment of resident learning needs and creation of a professional development plan.
  • Linkage with unit-based orientation processes and clinical preceptors.
  • Ongoing learning sessions to discuss clinical and nursing leadership topics with Meriter Hospital experts representing clinical nurse specialists, clinical nurse educators, nurse leaders, physicians, other interdisciplinary care team members and human resource development personnel.
  • Skill development.
  • Application of critical thinking principles.
  • Relationship building and support for effective social integration into the work environment.

The nurse residency program is coordinated by an advanced degreed Clinical Nurse Educator in the Nursing Education Department of the hospital. The program coordinator will work with each individual resident as well as within the group learning sessions to assure that all possible educational resources are made available and learning needs are met.

Eligibility

ResidentsThe basic requirements for acceptance into the Nurse Residency Program at Meriter Hospital are:

  • Acceptance of Meriter nursing employment offer following graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
     
  • Successful completion of the NCLEX within six weeks of graduation date.
     
  • Successful completion of the initial hospital orientation and probationary periods.
     
  • Willingness to actively participate in all learning sessions and complete program-related activities which include but are not limited to clinical journaling, knowledge assessment and survey tool completion.
     
  • Commitment to working a minimum of two years within the designated clinical area.

2. Complete a current resume and paste in the designated space on the employment application.
