Meriter's Commitment to Quality
Clinical Safety

Every day, millions of Americans receive quality health care. They get the right care at the right time in the right way needed to achieve the best possible results. Health care is complex, however, and the potential for something to go wrong does exist. Meriter Hospital physicians, nurses and clinical and support staff do all they can to assure our patients' safety, and to refine the systems and procedures that help us deliver that care effectively.

Surgical Site Infection Rates

Meriter has dramatically reduced surgical site infection rates to a point where we are better than national levels. See the bar at right for details on how we're working to lower these numbers.

What Meriter is Doing to Lower These Numbers
  • We were chosen as 1 of 54 hospitals in the United States to participate in the National Collaborative Experience Project that is focusing on the prevention of surgical infections. This collaborative is sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and facilitated by Pro-West and the Institute for Health Care Improvement.

Highlighted Data:
Patient Fall Rates

The chart at left showcases Meriter's patient fall rates on an annual basis.

Why This is Important
  • Hospitals are unfamiliar places, something that puts patients - especially older adults - at an increased risk for falling. That's true even for those who generally have not had such problems.
What Meriter is Doing to Lower These Numbers
  • Meriter nurses assess all patients for their likelihood of falling, and develop individualized plans that reduce the chance that patients will experience a fall.
  • Patients who at high risk for falls are placed on our "Fall Prevention Program." These patients receive extra precautions and information on how they can work together with the staff to keep themselves safe.
